viva la raza...
I'd like to think that the Mexican Culture has come pretty far in the last 10 years. Up until 15 years ago, the only time I saw mexicans they were either watering lawns or pouring me water at a restaurant...and now we eat tacos and burritos, we suffer from El Nino and when people want something different than a bud light, they'll go for the Corona.
Which is why I was surprised to see this sign at the restaurant we ate at in Odell, Illinois
Anyone ever heard of a three milk cake? Maybe by the name TRES LECHES!
This may actually beat this sign, which can be found at our local walgreens:
I bet you didn't know that we, my Hispanic hermanos y hermanas, had our own section. Que bueno!

Possibly. There's this characteristic smell I have smelt so many times that I am told is a specific brand of soap.
As for me, I'm as Anglo as can be, but I have a family history that has mingled with Hispanic culture for some generations now. Personally, I just like shopping at the local Mex supermarket because the produce is a bargain, and since I have adopted a little Mexican cooking, some of the other foodstuffs/ingredients I need are there at the right price (like piloncillo, tortillas, limes, etc.)
There is more mixing now than there used to be, yes, but I am motivated mostly by family legacy and poverty. Oh, and I have Hispanic neighbors. The parents speak only a little English, while the kids speak it fluently. We have to speak a little Spanish.
